bridj is a daily word puzzle for the browser and iPhone. One word sits across the top of a grid and another across the bottom, and you link them with a chain of crossing words built from a row of letter tiles. A new puzzle comes out each day, and you compare scores with friends.

About bridj

bridj, by James Karlsson (jaaamesey on itch.io), first appeared in 2024. Each puzzle shows two words, one along the top row of a grid and one along the bottom, such as WIPERS and CARWASH. Between them is empty space, and below the grid is a row of letter tiles, some of them two-letter tiles like AU or AR. You build a bridge by laying words down and across, each one sharing a letter with the last, until the top word is connected to the bottom one.

The rules are short, but the scoring gives it depth. Placed tiles earn points, some with bonuses shown above them, and the total is shown as a multiplication at the bottom of the screen. An undo button and a wild tile help when you get stuck. Since everyone gets the same puzzle, the fun is in comparing: who found the highest score, and who used the strangest words.

The puzzle number counts the days since the game began in July 2024, and an archive lets you go back to earlier days. A new puzzle becomes available each day at local midnight. bridj plays free in the browser at bridj.link and on itch.io, and there is a free iPhone app.

How to play bridj

  1. Open bridj.link (or the app) to load today's puzzle.
  2. Read the word on the top row and the word on the bottom row.
  3. Drag letter tiles onto the grid to spell words down and across, each crossing the last.
  4. Keep building until your chain of words joins the top word to the bottom word.
  5. Check your score and compare it with friends.

Tips

  • Use the two-letter tiles where they fit; they cover more ground in one move.
  • Plan a route before placing tiles: a short bridge can leave tiles for bonus words.
  • Save the wild tile for the last gap you cannot fill.
  • Try the archive to practise on earlier days.
