WordEq for Today, Oct 3: the equation shoulder + thread = jewelry above an answer box with Try, How to play and Hint buttons

WordEq is a daily wordplay puzzle written as an equation: two clue words plus a category. Replace each clue with a synonym, opposite or association so the two new words join into one answer that fits the category.

About WordEq

WordEq sets one small equation a day. On 3 October 2026 it read shoulder + thread = jewelry. Neither clue is part of the answer: each has to be swapped for a related word, a synonym, an opposite or an association, and only one pair of swaps joins into a real word or phrase that fits the category.

The game's own example shows how it works. Number + stop = a joke: number could become digit, calculation or word, and stop could become finish, complete or its opposite, play. Only word and play make something that is a joke, so the answer is wordplay. You type your answer and press Try, and a Hint button helps when you are stuck.

Each puzzle is dated, and a menu at the top lets you pick earlier days. It was shared on Show HN in July 2026.

It suits fans of compound-word puzzles and cryptic-style lateral thinking who want a one-minute daily.
