WordWeld is a daily word puzzle from Redividers. You reorder a row of words, the letters join into one long string, and you place scissors to split it into a new set of real words. A puzzle comes out every day, with a longer one on Sundays.

About WordWeld

WordWeld is one of three daily word puzzles on Redividers.app, a small site whose footer credits W. Stout. The other two are Storylines and Substringers, and all three play with the idea of cutting words apart and joining the pieces in new ways.

Each puzzle shows a row of words. Blue words are fixed in place and green words can be moved. First you drag the green words (or click two to swap them) into the right order. The words then run together into one string of letters, and you place a limited number of scissors in the gaps to cut that string into new words. Each green word splits exactly once: its first part finishes the word on its left and its second part starts the word on its right. In the site's example, tow, elope, rain, sultan, gelato, never and sesame become towel, opera, insult, angel, atone, verse and same.

A Check/Hints button marks wrong words, a three-minute target earns a bonus medal, and ordering the words in the fewest moves earns a Perfect Precision award. You can also switch to an untimed mode. A calendar lets you play earlier days, and Sunday puzzles, marked in purple, are longer.

It suits players who like spotting words hidden across word boundaries. You can play as a guest, or create a free account to save progress.

How to play WordWeld

  1. Open WordWeld and press Play Today's Puzzle (tick Play Untimed Mode if you prefer no clock).
  2. Drag the green words into order between the fixed blue words, or click two words to swap them.
  3. Place scissors in the gaps of the joined string, by dragging them or clicking a gap.
  4. Make sure each green word is split once, ending the word before it and starting the word after it.
  5. Press Check/Hints to see which words are wrong, then fix them.

Tips

  • Look for common endings like -el, -er or -ate in one word and matching starts in another; they show which words sit side by side.
  • Work out the order before placing any scissors, since a wrong order makes clean cuts impossible.
  • Blue words can also lend letters to their neighbours, so do not treat them as fixed whole words.
