Word to your Mother turns Wordle's end game into the whole puzzle. Each board shows coloured clue words, the way a Wordle grid looks part way through, and tells you exactly how many answers still fit. Your job is to find all of them; in normal mode each correct word adds hints, and hard mode takes those hints away.

About Word to your Mother

Word to your Mother (W2YM) is a free daily word game designed and coded by Jeremy Bornstein. Its idea comes from Wordall, which itself grew out of Wordle: instead of hunting for one hidden word, you see a board of clues and must list every word that is consistent with it.

Each numbered daily board shows letters coloured as in Wordle, green for the right place, yellow for in the word but elsewhere, and grey for absent. The game tells you how many words fit, for example exactly four, and you type five-letter words to find them. Only words that break the board's rules count against you; real but obscure words that fit earn credit as bonus words.

In normal mode, the words you have already found are coloured to give hints about the remaining answers. Hard mode shows them in a single colour, which is closer to the reasoning you need in Wordle itself. Your times are recorded for the daily, hard mode and other games.

Besides the daily board there are unlimited random games and a new board every ten minutes. It suits Wordle players who enjoy the deduction of the last few guesses.

How to play Word to your Mother

  1. Open the daily board and read the coloured clue letters.
  2. Note how many words fit the board.
  3. Type a five-letter word that obeys every green, yellow and grey clue.
  4. Use the hints from the words you find (in normal mode) to find the rest.
  5. Find every word that fits to finish.

Tips

  • Fix the green letters first and list the vowels that are still allowed.
  • Remember a yellow letter must appear, but not in the position shown.
  • Switch to hard mode once the normal hints feel too easy.
