Movie Reveal, the film version by the same makers

Sports Reveal is a daily athlete guessing game from the makers of Movie Grid. Each day there is a hidden NFL player and a hidden NBA player; you see the position and choose which facts to reveal, from teams and career stats to height, college and draft year. You start with 100 points and have five guesses.

About Sports Reveal

Sports Reveal comes from Sam Shulman and Alex Nunan, who also make the film games Movie Grid and Movie Reveal. It applies the Movie Reveal idea to athletes: each day's player is hidden behind a board of facts, and you decide how much to uncover before you guess.

There are two daily puzzles, one for the NFL and one for the NBA. The board starts with the player's position. The rest of the facts are hidden: up to three teams, ordered by games played; three career stats suited to the position, such as tackles, interceptions and sacks for a linebacker; and details like height, weight, age, career length, college, Pro Bowl count, draft position and draft year.

You begin with 100 points, and revealing information lowers what you can score, so the skill is in picking the clues that narrow things most. You have five guesses, and you can give up if you are stuck. Player stats are kept up to date during the season, and player photos come from Wikimedia Commons.

The site also links to the makers' movie games, so it suits people who play Movie Grid or Movie Reveal and want the same format for sports.

How to play Sports Reveal

  1. Open Sports Reveal and choose the NFL or NBA puzzle.
  2. Read the position, then reveal the facts you think will help most: teams, career stats or details.
  3. Type a player's name to guess; you have five guesses.
  4. Name the player with as many of your 100 points left as you can, then try the other league.

Tips

  • Reveal the first team before anything else: it narrows the field more than any single stat.
  • Career length and draft year together place a player in an era quickly.
  • For defensive players, sacks and interceptions separate pass rushers from coverage players.
  • Do not guess blind: a wrong guess uses one of only five, so reveal one more clue if unsure.
