Mots trouvés is the timed word game of Le Monde Jeux. Each day brings a new 3 by 3 grid of letters, and you have ten minutes to type in as many French words made from them as you can, against a counter of how many words the grid holds. Dated grids come with the Le Monde Jeux subscription; seven free grids are open to everyone.

About Mots trouvés (Le Monde)

Mots trouvés sits beside the crosswords, the mini crossword and the sudoku on Le Monde Jeux, the puzzle site of the French daily Le Monde. Its own description is short: make as many words as you can in ten minutes with the day's grid of nine letters.

The game page shows the nine letters as tiles in a 3 by 3 square, a 10:00 countdown above them and a text line where your word appears as you tap letters or type. Valider submits the word, Effacer removes the last letter and Mélanger shuffles the tiles to help you see new combinations. On the right, a panel lists the words you have found against the total for the grid: the first free grid, with the letters C, L, N, I, U, B, K, M and D, holds 74. Buttons above it open the rules, your statistics, a way to report a problem and Tout révéler, which shows every word at the end.

Each day has its own dated page (for example /game/mots-trouves/03-10-2026), and the list page has a calendar going back through the archive. The dated grids and the archive are part of the Jeux subscription; the site offers seven numbered free grids (Grille gratuite n°1 to n°7) to try the game without one.

It suits French speakers who like Boggle-style word hunts and anyone who plays the anagram dailies in English and wants a French one with a clock.

How to play Mots trouvés (Le Monde)

  1. Open the day's grid from the Mots trouvés page on Le Monde Jeux (or a free grid).
  2. Tap the letters or type to build a French word from the nine tiles.
  3. Press Valider to submit it; correct words join the list on the right.
  4. Use Mélanger to shuffle the tiles when you run out of ideas.
  5. Keep going until the ten-minute clock reaches zero, then use Tout révéler to see the words you missed.

Tips

  • Start with short words and plurals: they add up quickly against the total.
  • Shuffle often; a new arrangement of the tiles shows new prefixes and endings.
  • Look for common French endings such as -ment, -tion or -ais in grids that allow them.
  • Read the rules page once: it says which words count.
