Letterkin
Rate itAnswer five clues using as few different letters as you can.
Every day: Five new clues a day, the same for every player, with an editor's target for the number of different letters. A new numbered edition comes at midnight UTC; the first was on October 8, 2026. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

Letterkin is a free daily word puzzle in the browser. Each day brings five short clues, and you answer each with a word, trying to use as few different letters across all five as possible. Repeated letters cost nothing, so the game is in picking answers that share letters and beating the editor's target.
About Letterkin
Letterkin is a word puzzle with a counting twist. Every day it posts five clues, such as a plain definition of a word, and you answer each with a single English word of at least three letters. Your score is the number of different letters your five answers use between them, and a lower score is better.
Letters repeat for free, within a word or across words. LIE and LINEN together cost four letters: E, I, L and N. Before you lock an answer, the game shows how many new letters it would add, and an alphabet strip at the top marks the letters you have already paid for. An accepted answer locks for good, so it cannot be changed or used twice; a word the game does not accept adds nothing and does not lock.
Each edition carries an editor's target, the score of a solution the puzzle's editor found. There is no timer, and you can answer the clues in any order, so the work is in looking for answers that reuse letters you already have, or a synonym that fits better than the first word that comes to mind.
When all five are locked, you can share your score without giving away your answers. After finishing the day's puzzle you can replay earlier editions as practice rounds. Progress is saved in your browser and nothing asks you to sign up. It suits players who like Spelling Bee or Letter Boxed and want a short puzzle where the vocabulary matters as much as the letters.
How to play Letterkin
- Read the day's five clues and pick any one to start.
- Type a single English word of at least three letters that answers the clue.
- Check the new-letter count shown beside the answer box, then lock the answer.
- Answer the other four clues, reusing letters you have already used where you can, since repeats are free.
- Compare your total of different letters with the editor's target, then share your score or play a practice edition.
Tips
- Solve the clue with the most possible answers last, once you know which letters you already have.
- Think of synonyms: of two words that fit a clue, the one sharing more letters with your other answers scores better.
- Watch the alphabet strip at the top to see which letters are already paid for.
- Answers lock once accepted, so check the new-letter count before you press Lock answer.

Do I need an account?
No. Letterkin plays in the browser and saves your progress for the day in that browser.
