Fourbe's share card: a grid of green and empty tiles beside the words 'Four clues. One hidden subject.'

Fourbe is the lead game on Daily Worder: each day you solve four hand-written clues, typing every answer letter by letter, then name the subject that links them. Grounds, Java, filters and Sunday roast, say, all point to coffee. A clean sweep scores 6,000 points.

About Fourbe

Fourbe comes from Daily Worder, a small set of daily word games by Robert Bartley that launched in spring 2026 on the web and as an app for iPhone and Android. Every puzzle is written by a person, and the daily ones are free with no ads and no account needed.

A day's Fourbe has four rounds. Each gives you one clue, often a pun or a sideways definition, and you type the answer letter by letter. There is no backspace: every letter you commit is final, so you think before you type. Each round is worth up to 1,000 points.

The twist is the fifth answer. The four clues share a hidden subject, and once you have solved them (or given up on some) you name it in the Fourbe round, with three hints on offer at the cost of a guess each. In the game's own example the answers GROUNDS, JAVA, FILTERS and SUNDAY ROAST all lead to COFFEE. Get everything right and you score a perfect 6,000.

It suits players who like crossword clues and trivia more than letter-guessing: there is no grid and no coloured tiles, just a clue, a keyboard and the slow suspicion that the four answers have something in common. Past dailies can be played from the archive, and paid packs add more puzzles.

How to play Fourbe

  1. Read the first clue and type its answer one letter at a time; letters cannot be taken back.
  2. Move on through the four clues, scoring up to 1,000 points for each.
  3. Look at the four answers together and work out the hidden subject they share.
  4. Name the subject in the Fourbe round, using up to three hints if you need them (each costs a guess).
  5. Share your score and come back after 5 AM Eastern for the next puzzle.

Tips

  • Read every clue before you type anything: the hidden subject often makes a hard clue easy.
  • Clues are frequently puns, so try the sideways reading of a word as well as the plain one.
  • Because there is no backspace, count the letter tiles and be sure of the spelling before you start.
