Four Little Words is a daily themed word puzzle from Greenrift Software. Each day gives a theme such as Ocean Depths and a pool of letters, and you guess the four secret words that fit, from three to six letters long, with colour feedback on every letter. Five mistakes and the puzzle locks until tomorrow.
About Four Little Words
Four Little Words comes from Greenrift Software and plays in the browser at 4lw.io and in apps for iPhone and Android, out since autumn 2025. It is a short daily puzzle: one theme, four words.
The day's theme sits at the top, with four rows of empty tiles below it, from a three-letter word up to a six-letter one, and a keyboard of the letters that can be used. Type a word into a row and the tiles colour in, showing which letters are right, which are in the word somewhere else and which are wrong. A word that does not fit costs a mistake, and after five the puzzle locks for the day. A timer runs as you play.
Find all four and the game shows your time and mistakes, with stats, streaks and a result to share. Each day's puzzle is hand-made and the same for every player. The apps keep an archive of past days and a practice mode for subscribers; the daily is free with ads.
It suits players who like Wordle's colour clues but want a theme to reason from.
How to play Four Little Words
- Read the day's theme at the top.
- Pick a row and type a word that fits the theme, using the letters on the keyboard.
- Read the colours: they show which letters are right, misplaced or not in the word.
- Fill all four rows before you make five mistakes, then share your time.

Tips
- Start with the shortest row: a three-letter word fixes letters cheaply.
- Cross off letters the keyboard marks as used up before guessing longer words.
- Use the theme to guess whole words, then let the colours confirm letters for the longer rows.
