A CrossCase crossword from the Dahmer case with PROBATION, HANDCUFF, KNIFE and PATROL filled in

CrossCase is an Android crossword game in which each day's grid, the same for everyone, is about a real criminal case. Seven puzzles make up a case, and every answer you find unlocks a sourced fact for the case file. The free public beta on itch.io holds three cases in English and French, and is meant for adults.

About CrossCase

CrossCase is a daily crossword game about real criminal cases, made by Henro-Bot and published on itch.io in October 2026 as a public beta for Android. It is played in English or French. The beta holds three cases, the Dahmer, West and BTK cases, 21 puzzles in all, released one a day from 25 September to 15 October 2026. Its official site says the full game, with fourteen cases, is due on Google Play on 24 October 2026.

Each day there is one crossword, the same for every player. Seven puzzles make a case, and the seventh closes the file. Every answer you enter unlocks a fact card naming its source, from court records and press archives to books and official documents, and the case file grows into a story with a timeline, places, witnesses and evidence. Missed days can be caught up later from a calendar.

When you are stuck, CrossCoins reveal a letter or a whole word, and a gold, silver or bronze medal for each closed case shows how much help you used. There are also weekly challenges, levels, titles and avatars. In the beta, purchases are simulated and never charged, and four parody ads stand in for where ads may go later.

The cases are told with restraint: each is named after its perpetrator, never a victim, and there are no photos of victims. They deal with murder, abduction and sexual violence, so the game is for adults only. It suits crossword players who also follow true crime.

How to play CrossCase

  1. Install the CrossCase beta APK from its itch.io page on an Android phone.
  2. Open the day's puzzle from the home screen or the calendar.
  3. Tap a square to pick a word, read its clue and type the answer.
  4. Read the fact card each answer unlocks, and use CrossCoins to reveal a letter or word if you are stuck.
  5. Finish all seven puzzles of a case to close the file and earn its medal.

Tips

  • Read the case file before you start a grid: earlier fact cards often answer later clues.

  • Use the calendar to catch up on missed days; you can start a case at any time.
