Crossword is a free browser crossword from Masque Publishing, the studio behind many of the classic card and puzzle games on Yahoo Games. It runs on desktop and phone without an account.

Each day has one new puzzle, the same for everyone, and each carries a short title. The grids are standard 15x15 American crosswords with black squares in rotational symmetry, and the clues mix general knowledge, wordplay, pop culture and fill-in-the-blank quotes, the kind a regular newspaper solver will recognise.

When you open a puzzle, a timer starts; you can skip a clue and come back to it. The puzzle selector shows the recent days, so a missed puzzle stays playable for about a month, and finished puzzles are marked.

It suits players who want a full-size daily crossword without a subscription, and fits next to the Yahoo Mini for a longer solve.

How to play Crossword (Masque Publishing)

1. Open Crossword on Yahoo Games and pick today's date in the puzzle selector.
2. Select a square or a clue; the matching entry in the grid is highlighted.
3. Type your answer, one letter per square; crossing words share letters.
4. Skip a clue you cannot get yet and come back once crossings fill in.
