Connessioni puzzle #161: a four by four grid of Italian words such as VONGOLE, MARE, PENNE and BARCA, with four mistakes left

Connessioni is an unofficial Italian take on Connections by Maurizio Fonte. Each day brings one numbered board of sixteen Italian words to sort into four groups, from an easy yellow set to a tricky purple one, with four mistakes allowed.

About Connessioni (mauriziofonte.it)

Connessioni is a free Italian version of the Connections format, written by Maurizio Fonte and hosted among the tools on his website. It is independent and says so: it is not affiliated with The New York Times.

The board has sixteen Italian words in a four by four grid. They split into four groups of four that share a category, theme or pattern. Groups are coloured by difficulty, from yellow (easy) through green and blue to purple, which usually hides wordplay or a cultural reference. Select four tiles and submit; a correct group is removed and its category revealed, a wrong one costs one of four lives.

Each numbered daily board is identical for all players and changes at midnight UTC. Past boards can be replayed from an archive, and a practice mode gives random boards, though neither counts towards your streak. There is no account; statistics stay on your device.

It suits Italian speakers and learners who already play Connections and want the same challenge in their language.

How to play Connessioni (mauriziofonte.it)

  1. Open Connessioni; today's numbered board is shown.
  2. Pick four words you think share a category and press submit.
  3. Correct groups are removed and named; a wrong guess costs one of four lives.
  4. Find all four groups before your fourth mistake, then share your result.

Tips

  • Look for words that fit more than one group and place them last.
  • The purple group often relies on double meanings or wordplay.
  • Use practice mode to warm up; it does not touch your streak.
