Codebreaker daily puzzles on Puzzleship

Codebreaker is a digits version of Mastermind where every guess has already been played. Each row shows an attempt scored with filled pegs for right digits in the right place and hollow pegs for right digits in the wrong place. The rows allow exactly one code.

About Codebreaker (Puzzleship)

You never make trial guesses. All the evidence is on screen from the start: a set of attempts and their scores, with nothing saying which digit earned which peg. You compare rows against each other to work out the code, then type it into the bottom row, which only unlocks when every digit is right. Digits may repeat.

Rows at the extremes are the place to start: a row with no pegs removes all its digits, and a row with every slot pegged gives the whole digit set. Rows that differ in one or two places are worth comparing, since the change in score comes from that difference alone. Harder puzzles show more rows because each says less.

Puzzleship publishes six codes of Codebreaker a day, graded from very easy to ultra hard. Each day's codes are numbered and dated, the same for every player, and appear at midnight in your own time zone; earlier days stay playable in the archive. The site is free with ads, and a premium plan removes them.

How to play Codebreaker (Puzzleship)

  1. Open Codebreaker and pick one of the day's six codes.
  2. Read each scored attempt: filled pegs are right and in place, hollow pegs right but misplaced.
  3. Tap digits in the rows to mark them ruled out, present or locked.
  4. Compare rows to fix digits and positions.
  5. Type the code into the bottom row once you are sure.

Tips

  • Use a zero-peg row first; all its digits are out.
  • Compare rows that differ in only one position.
  • Remember digits can repeat.
  • Use the annotations, not memory.
