Rate itName the artist behind a painting from The Met in six guesses.

About Artle Game
Artle Game is a free browser quiz built on the open access collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each round puts one artwork on the screen, usually a painting, and you type the name of the artist who made it. The images and details are loaded through the museum's public Collection API. It is an independent fan project with no tie to the museum.
The game opens in Unlimited mode, where each round draws a random work. Turning on Daily challenge in the settings switches to the shared puzzle: one artwork per day, the same for everyone. You have six attempts by default, and the settings let you change that to three or ten.
If a name will not come, up to four hints can be opened one at a time: the period, the medium, the artist's nationality and years, and finally the first letter of the artist's name. Harder options include turning off name suggestions, and a Blur challenge where the artwork starts blurred and sharpens with each guess. Unlimited mode can also widen the pool beyond paintings to drawings, sculpture and other works.
Wins, games played and streaks are kept in your browser, with no account. At the end of each round the answer is shown with a link to the work's page on The Met's website, so a miss still teaches you something. It suits anyone who likes museums, art history quizzes or Wordle-style daily guessing.
How to play Artle Game
- Open the settings and switch on Daily challenge to play the day's shared artwork.
- Study the picture; tap or click it to zoom in on the brushwork and details.
- Type an artist's name, pick it from the suggestions and submit your guess.
- If you are stuck, open a hint: period, medium, the artist's nationality and years, then the first letter of the name.
- Name the artist within six attempts to keep your streak, then share your result or look up the work on The Met's site.

Tips
- Use the zoom: signatures, dates and costume details often narrow down the century and country.
- Open hints in order; the period and medium alone often rule out most names.
- Turn off autocomplete or switch on Blur challenge once the default game feels easy.
