Word Grid (CleverGoat)
Fill a 3 by 3 grid with words that fit both their row and column rules, and keep them rare.
Every day: One numbered 3 by 3 grid a day, the same for everyone, with three word rules on the rows and three on the columns; your score depends on how rare your words are among that day's players. New puzzle: Midnight Eastern Time, as the game's FAQ states.

Word Grid is CleverGoat's daily word version of the sports grid games. Each square needs a word that meets its row rule and its column rule, such as starts with ph and has five letters. Every answer is scored by how many other players used it, so the aim is a full grid with the lowest rarity score.
About Word Grid (CleverGoat)
Word Grid gives you a numbered 3 by 3 grid each day. The three rows and three columns each carry a rule about spelling rather than meaning: a length, a starting or ending pair of letters, a double letter, more than one of a given letter, a letter the word must not contain. Every square sits where a row meets a column, and the word you put there has to satisfy both rules. The game's own example is a row of starts with ph and a column of five letter word, where phone, photo and phase all work.
The twist is rarity. Each word is scored by the share of that day's players who used it in the same square, and your total is the sum. Low is good, so the obvious answer costs you and an odd Scrabble word helps. A word no one else has found is a unicorn, and the game keeps count of the unicorns you collect, and lets you know when another player takes one from you. Guesses per square are unlimited, so you can keep improving a grid all day.
CleverGoat says Word Grid is its own game, inspired by the sports grids. Words are checked against the SOWPODS Scrabble list. A reverse mode flips the goal: there you try to match the most popular answers instead. A new grid comes at midnight New York time, and every earlier grid can be played from the archive, with stats, a leaderboard and friends' scores alongside.
The game runs in the browser with ads, which members can remove, and is also part of the CleverGoat app for iPhone, together with Categories, Stacked, Crossherd and Flipple.

Tips
- Scrabble words that few people know make the best low-rarity answers.
- Fill every square with something first, then go back and hunt for rarer words.
- Guesses are unlimited, so there is no cost to trying a word that might not be in the list.
- Try reverse mode afterwards, where the most common answer is the best one.
