The Süddeutsche Zeitung's online Kreuzworträtsel is a 15 by 15 general-knowledge crossword published every day, each one numbered and dated. The series started on 1 August 2023 and has run daily since, with all past puzzles kept online. Solving needs an SZ Plus subscription.

About Kreuzworträtsel (Süddeutsche Zeitung)

The SZ Rätsel section of sueddeutsche.de describes its crossword in one line: 15 mal 15, does your knowledge fill every square? It asks you to prove your general knowledge and vocabulary, with the clues and answers in German.

Every puzzle has a number and a date. Kreuzworträtsel 1 is dated 1 August 2023, and number 1159 is the puzzle for 2 October 2026, one for each day in between, weekends included. The current puzzle is always at the aktuell address, and earlier numbers can be opened directly, so the full run doubles as an archive. Everyone who opens a given number solves the same grid.

The crossword needs an SZ Plus subscription; without it, the page shows a subscription prompt. The section also lists a Testen (try) link for non-subscribers, and it sits next to Str8ts, Kestli, Futoshiki, sudoku and a German Wordle. A harder weekly crossword, Das Kreuz mit den Worten, appears on Thursdays.

It suits German speakers and learners who want a classic general-knowledge crossword each day rather than a cryptic.
