Spendle's Daily Edition board: a LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon set with two guesses, $500 and $800, both marked Higher

Spendle is a daily price-guessing game. Each day's edition shows one Amazon product, from headphones to a LEGO set, with a photo and a category, and you have six tries to guess its price. Every miss tells you to go higher or lower and colours yellow once you are within 25 percent; a guess within 5 percent wins.

About Spendle

Spendle is a browser game that brings the price-guessing idea of TV shopping quizzes to a Wordle-style daily format. The Daily Edition shows one product with a picture, its name and a category such as Toys, Gaming or Pet Supplies.

You type a price in dollars as your guess. If you are off, the game says Higher or Lower and colours the hint: red when you are more than 25 percent away, yellow when you are within 25 percent. You keep narrowing down, and if a guess lands within 5 percent of the real price, you win. You have six tries in all.

A new Spendle unlocks every day at midnight by your own clock. The prices come from Amazon at the time each puzzle was made, so the price on Amazon today may differ, and the answer links to the product on Amazon.

Besides the Daily Edition there is a Freeplay mode that lets you play the products of earlier days you missed, and a stats panel keeps your streak. It suits shoppers and bargain hunters who think they know what things cost, and anyone who wants a quick daily number guess.

How to play Spendle

  1. Open Spendle and look at today's product, its photo, name and category.
  2. Type your guess of its price in dollars and press Guess.
  3. Read the hint: Higher or Lower, red when you are more than 25 percent off, yellow when you are within 25 percent.
  4. Adjust your next guess using the hint.
  5. Win by guessing within 5 percent of the price in six tries, then share your result or open Freeplay for past days.

Tips

  • Make a bold first guess to find out quickly which side of 25 percent you are on.
  • Once you are within 25 percent, move in small steps.
  • Think about the brand and category; premium names push prices up.
