Today's Angled board, round 1 of 5: the orange line to drag against the moved grey reference line, with the Lock it in button

Angled shows an orange line against a grey reference line for three seconds, hides it, turns the reference line and asks you to drag the dial back to the same opening. There are five angles a day with one attempt each, the same five for everyone. Each round scores out of 10 by how many degrees you missed, for a total out of 50.

About Angled

Angled is one of six free daily estimation games on Freehand (freehand.fun). Each round an orange line appears against a grey reference line for three seconds and then disappears. When the dial comes back, the reference line points somewhere new, so you cannot copy the position on screen: you have to rebuild the size of the opening from memory.

There is no protractor and no number to read. You drag the orange handle, or use the arrow keys, until the gap looks the same as the one you saw, then press Lock it in. The game then shows your line beside the real one, how many degrees you were off and a score out of 10. Misses are scaled to the size of the angle, so a small miss on a narrow angle counts about the same as a proportionate miss on a wide one.

The day's set is five angles with one attempt at each, and every player gets the same five on that date. A finished day adds up to a score out of 50, shown against the curve of the day's results, and completed scores go to Freehand's shared leaderboard under a name the site assigns, which you can change without making an account. New rounds arrive at midnight in your own time zone. A first visit opens with a one-round practice and a four-card how-to that you can skip.

It differs from the angle guessing games where you type a number of degrees and get higher or lower hints: here there are no hints and no second look, only your eye and what it kept. Freehand's other five games (Halved, Dropped, Balanced, Counted and Timed) work the same way, so Angled fits into a short daily run of judgement tests. It suits anyone who wants a minute or two of practice at seeing shapes accurately.

How to play Angled

  1. Open Angled and press Play; a first visit offers a practice round and a how-to you can skip.
  2. Watch the orange line against the grey one for the three seconds it is shown.
  3. When the reference line moves, drag the orange handle, or use the arrow keys, until the opening matches the angle you saw.
  4. Press Lock it in; you get one attempt per angle and see how many degrees you were off and your score out of 10.
  5. Press Next round and repeat for all five angles, then see your total out of 50 against the day's curve.

Tips

  • Compare the gap with angles you know, such as a right angle or half of one, rather than its position on screen.
  • Ignore where the reference line used to point: only the opening between the two lines matters.
  • Small angles are scored in proportion, so take extra care with narrow ones.
  • The arrow keys give finer control than dragging for the last degree or two.
