Same Energy Day 18 on desktop: how many glasses of milk have the same energy as a 40 g bar of dark chocolate, with an empty glass ready to pour

Same Energy shows one real food or drink each day, such as a bottle of cola, and asks how many portions of something else hold the same energy. You pile up the plate or pour glasses, then reveal the real amount, worked out from two official food tables.

About Same Energy

Same Energy is a daily estimation game from Logicers, a site of short learning games. Each day it puts one food or drink at the top of the screen, for example a 500 ml bottle of cola, and a plate or a row of glasses of something else below it, such as glasses of milk. Your job is to fill that plate or pour those glasses until you think they hold the same energy as the thing at the top.

You drag up on the plate or tap it to add a portion, and drag down to take one away. When you are happy, you tap Show the real amount. The answer fills in over your guess, and yellow marks the part you got wrong. The game never shows a calorie figure: it counts only apples, slices of bread, eggs, grapes and glasses, with fixed portions (a glass is 250 ml, an apple 180 g, a slice of bread 30 g).

The figures come from two official food tables, the USDA's FoodData Central and Norway's Matvaretabellen, both linked under the answer, and the answer is rounded to half a portion. The page also explains why a drink does not fill you up the way the same energy as food does, and lists eating disorder help lines in the United Kingdom, the United States and Italy.

Every day you play becomes a stamp in an album, with a streak, a best streak and a count of days you were spot on. A Practice mode replays yesterday's item without counting toward your streak. There is no login, no tracking and no cookies; your progress stays in your browser. It is played in English, Italian and Spanish, with the same item for everyone on a given day. It suits anyone curious about how much energy everyday food and drink carry, in a minute or two a day.

Your result counts as soon as you reveal the answer. It joins an anonymous tally of everyone who played that day, and the results panel shows where your country stands among the others and how your guess compares with the rest of the players. Then a Next game button leads on to the other Logicers dailies.

How to play Same Energy

  1. Look at the day's food or drink at the top and the item you will measure it in below.
  2. Drag up on the plate or glasses, or tap them, to add a portion; drag down to take one away.
  3. Stop when you think the plate or glasses hold the same energy as the item at the top.
  4. Tap Show the real amount to see the answer laid over your guess, with the gap marked in yellow.
  5. Share your result picture or link, and come back after midnight for the next day.

Tips

  • Learn the fixed portions: a glass is 250 ml, a can 330 ml, an apple 180 g, a slice of bread 30 g and a boiled egg 50 g.
  • Sugary drinks carry more energy than they look; a bottle of cola often matches several glasses of milk.
  • With grapes, landing within a tenth of the answer counts as spot on, so a close pile is enough.
  • Use Practice to try yesterday's item before guessing today's.
