Pimantle

Find the day's secret word by meaning, with every guess plotted around it on a radial graph.

Every day: One hand-picked secret word a day, numbered and the same for everyone, found by guessing words and reading how close in meaning each is; past puzzles sit in an archive. New puzzle: Once a day; the site does not state the time.

Pimantle is a daily semantic word hunt that scores guesses the way Semantle does. Every guess gets a similarity score and a point on a radial plot with the secret word at the centre, so you can see which lines of thought are closing in. Other players' guesses appear on the plot live, and a hint unlocks after enough tries.

About Pimantle

Pimantle gives everyone the same secret word each day, chosen by hand from its word list. There are no letter clues. You type any word, and the game tells you how close its meaning is to the answer, as a cosine similarity score from -1 to 1 taken from word2vec, the same scoring system Semantle uses.

What Pimantle adds is the plot behind the guess list. It is a radial chart with the secret word at the centre: the closer a guess is in meaning, the nearer the middle it lands, and words with related meanings sit along the same arm of a spiral. If a run of your guesses follows one arm without reaching the centre, the plot shows you it is time to try another direction.

If you stay connected to the server, other players' guesses blink onto the plot as they make them, and a star appears when someone solves the day's word. After enough guesses a hint button unlocks; it reveals the word that ranks halfway between your two closest guesses. Each puzzle is numbered, and an archive lets you go back to earlier Pimantles and older Semantle puzzles.

The site says it is designed for desktop and works less well on phones. It suits players who enjoy Semantle and Contexto and want to see their search laid out as a map.

How to play Pimantle

  1. Open semantle.pimanrul.es and type any English word as your first guess.
  2. Read its similarity score and see where it lands on the plot: nearer the centre means closer in meaning to the secret word.
  3. Follow the guesses that score best and try words related to them, moving towards the centre.
  4. When the hint button unlocks, use it to get a word ranked between your two closest guesses.
  5. Keep going until you hit the secret word, then share your result or open the archive for an earlier puzzle.

Tips

  • Start with broad, everyday words from different areas (a place, a feeling, an object, an action) to find which direction scores highest.
  • Watch the arms of the plot: if your best guesses sit on one arm that stops short of the centre, switch to a different sense of the word.
  • Scores reflect how words are used together in text, not dictionary meaning, so try words that often appear near your best guess.
  • Play on a computer if you can; the site says it is built for desktop.

Questions

How is Pimantle different from Semantle?

It uses the same similarity scores, but every guess is also drawn on a radial plot around the secret word, and you can see other players' guesses arrive live.

Is there a limit on guesses?

No. You keep guessing until you find the word, and the game counts how many tries you took.

Can I play earlier puzzles?

Yes. Puzzles are numbered and the archive lists past Pimantles, plus older Semantle puzzles.

Does it work on a phone?

It loads on mobile, but the site says it is designed for desktop and you may run into issues on a small screen.
