Fermle
Rate itGuess the right power of ten for one hard-to-know number a day, in five tries.
on fermle.io

Fermle is a daily estimation game. Each numbered question asks for a quantity nobody knows offhand, and you have five tries to land in the right order of magnitude, with higher or lower hints after each guess.
About Fermle
Fermle turns Fermi questions into a daily guessing game. Each day brings one numbered question, the same for every player, such as how many hours people watched on Netflix in a year, how many piano tuners work in Chicago, or how many ants live on Earth.
You do not need the exact figure. The goal is the right order of magnitude: if the answer is 85 million, any guess from 10 million to 99 million wins. You type a number (shorthand such as 500M or 2.5B works) and the game tells you to go higher or lower. You have five tries, and a hint is available if you are stuck.
Once you find the right power of ten, you get one bonus shot to get as close as possible, with colour showing how warm or cold you are and an arrow for the direction. The day's best players appear in a Today's Top 10 under a nickname you choose; you can play without one.
Advanced mode turns the same question into a trading exercise. Instead of one number you quote a bid and an ask, a low and a high price. If the answer is below your bid you are hit, if it is above your ask you are lifted, and a second chance at half points lets you adjust the range. A tighter spread around the answer scores more.
The game keeps your played games, wins and streak in the browser, and a Share result button copies a summary of your day.
It suits anyone who enjoys back-of-the-envelope reasoning and wants a quick daily number puzzle with a leaderboard.
How to play Fermle
- Open Fermle and read today's numbered question.
- Type an estimate, using shorthand such as 1K, 1M, 1B or 1e6 if you like.
- Follow the higher or lower hint and move to the next power of ten.
- Find the right order of magnitude within five tries; Show hint helps if you are stuck.
- Use the bonus guess to get as close to the exact figure as you can, then share your result or check Today's Top 10.
- For a harder round, switch to Advanced and quote a bid and ask range that holds the answer.

Tips
- Break the question into a few rough factors and multiply them.
- Start in the middle of the plausible range so each hint halves what is left.
- Use the hint only after a guess or two, once you know roughly where you are.
Questions
Is the question the same for everyone?
Yes, there is one numbered question a day for every player, with a daily top 10.
What counts as a win?
Any guess in the same power of ten as the answer, within five tries.
What is the bonus shot?
After finding the right order of magnitude you get one more guess at the exact number for bonus points.
What is Advanced mode?
You quote a bid and an ask around the answer, like a market maker. The game says whether the answer fell below your bid or above your ask, and you get a second try at half points.
When does a new question come out?
The game dates its questions by the UTC day, so a new one arrives at midnight UTC.
Is it free?
Yes. It plays in the browser with no account and no ads; a nickname is asked only if you want to appear on the top 10.
