Factle Sports by Front Office Sports title card with five green tiles

Factle Sports is Front Office Sports' daily trivia game. Each day's question asks for a ranked top five, you enter and order your answers, and the tile colours show which are right and how close the rest are. You get five tries.

About Factle Sports

Factle Sports is the sports edition of Factle, the top five guessing game published by Front Office Sports, a site that covers the business of sport. Every day brings one question that has a ranked answer: the five NFL teams with the most playoff games, the five pitchers with the most career no-hitters, the five golfers with the lowest scoring average at the Masters. Questions move between sports, from the NFL and baseball to golf, tennis and college football, so few players know every day's list cold.

You type five answers into the slots, drag them into the order you think is right and submit. Each tile then changes colour: green means the answer is in the top five and in the right place, yellow means it is in the top five but in the wrong place, and grey means it is not in the top five at all. You keep the greens, swap out the greys and reorder the yellows, and you have five tries to get the whole list right. Ties are settled by the rule printed with the question, often alphabetical by surname.

The game runs in any browser, is free, and needs no account or app. An archive lists earlier questions by date, so you can play days you missed. A round takes about two minutes, which suits readers who want one sports question with their morning news rather than a long quiz.

How to play Factle Sports

  1. Open Factle Sports and read the day's question, which asks for a top five.
  2. Enter five answers and drag them into the order you think is correct.
  3. Submit and read the tiles: green is right and in place, yellow is in the top five but misplaced, grey is not in the top five.
  4. Replace the grey answers, reorder the yellow ones and submit again.
  5. Get all five in order within five tries, then share your grid.

Tips

  • Lead with the answers you are surest of; a green tile anchors the rest of the list.
  • Use a first guess to test names you are unsure about: a grey tile rules a name out for good.
  • Read the tie rule under the question before ordering names with equal totals.
  • Play the archive to get a feel for the kinds of records the questions are built on.
