Quartiles Game puts a 4x5 grid of tiles on screen, each holding two to four letters. You tap tiles in order to build a word and submit it. Longer words built from more tiles score more: 1 point for one tile, 2 for two, 4 for three and 8 for four. Every grid hides five words that each use four tiles, called Quartiles, and finding all five adds a 40-point bonus.

The daily puzzle is numbered from 4 December 2024 and changes at midnight UTC, so everyone plays the same grid on the same day. When you finish, the game offers Unlimited mode, which loads a random puzzle by number for as many extra rounds as you like.

The site carries ads and says it is not affiliated with Apple, Apple News or Apple News+ Quartiles. The same makers list Shrinkle and Tic-Tac-Word as their other games.

It suits players who like Apple's Quartiles but do not have Apple News+, or who want more than one grid a day.

1. Open quartilesgame.org; today's grid of 20 tiles loads.
2. Tap tiles in order to spell a word and submit it.
3. Score more with words built from more tiles: 1, 2, 4 or 8 points.
4. Find the five four-tile words, the Quartiles, for a 40-point bonus.
5. When done, share your result or switch to Unlimited for more puzzles.

Tips

• Look for common word endings such as -tion, -ness or -able on single tiles; they are often the last quarter of a Quartile.
• Every tile belongs to exactly one Quartile, so a tile left over points to the one you are missing.
• Short words from two tiles add up; collect them while hunting the long ones.
