Flank's Sunday Edition for 18 October 2026: Zambia in the centre with Malawi, Angola and Tanzania found, five slots left and Kenya crossed out as a strike

Flank is a free daily geography game from Mind Loft. One country is revealed each day, and you type every country that shares a land border with it. Typos are free, but a real country that is not a neighbour costs a strike, and three strikes end the run.

About Flank (Mind Loft)

Flank tests whether you can picture a map. The day's country is named at the top, the number of its land neighbours is shown as empty slots, and you type them one at a time. A correct neighbour banks itself as soon as you finish typing it; a misspelling costs nothing, but naming a real country that does not border the target is a strike, and three strikes end the game.

The week has a shape. Monday starts with a country that has only one border, the difficulty climbs a step each day, and Sunday's edition brings the biggest board of the week with a fourth strike to use (Zambia and its eight neighbours on 18 October 2026; the site says a Sunday can reach a fourteen-neighbour giant). Everyone plays the same country each day, so the leaderboard ranks most borders named, then fewest wrong guesses, then time.

A new country arrives every day at midnight Eastern, and past boards stay playable in the archive. The board works the same on a phone: the slots ring the country and the entry box sits below them. Mind Loft's other geography dailies are Atlas, a twenty-five-question quiz with one life, Span, a border chain, and Ping, a secret city.

How to play Flank (Mind Loft)

  1. Open Flank and press Start to see the day's country and the number of neighbours.
  2. Type a country you think shares a land border with it.
  3. Correct neighbours fill a slot; a real country that does not border it costs a strike.
  4. Name all of them before you use up three strikes.

Tips

  • Go around the country's border in one direction in your head so you do not skip a neighbour.
  • Only land borders count, so leave out countries across a sea or strait.
  • Small countries and enclaves are easy to forget; think about microstates on the border.

Questions

What time does Flank reset?

A new Flank country goes up every day at midnight US Eastern Time, the same for every player. Difficulty climbs through the week, from a one-border country on Monday to the Sunday Edition, the biggest board of the week, with a fourth strike to spend.

Is Flank free?

Yes. Flank plays in the browser on Mind Loft with no app and no account. Signing up with a display name (no password) puts your result on the daily leaderboard; an email is optional.

Can I play earlier Flank puzzles?

Yes. Mind Loft keeps an archive of past Flank boards together with each day's standings.

Do typos count as strikes in Flank?

No. Only a real country that does not share a land border with the day's country costs a strike.
