Daily Themed Crossword has been on the App Store since 2017 and is made by PlaySimple Games, a Singapore-based mobile studio. Every day it releases one crossword built around a theme, with a different theme for each day of the week. Clues are written to be friendly, for example asking you to fill in Dwayne Johnson a.k.a. The ROCK, so it is closer to a casual puzzle than a newspaper cryptic.

You tap a square or clue and type answers on the in-app keyboard. Hints reveal letters or words when you are stuck, and daily rewards give coins to spend on them. Because everyone gets the same puzzle, the clues and answers for each date are widely discussed and posted on answer sites.

The app is free with ads. An optional VIP membership removes ads, unlocks a number of archived puzzles each day and the mini archive, and adds bonus coins. It suits casual solvers who like trivia-flavoured clues on movies, TV, sport and music.

How to play Daily Themed Crossword

1. Open the app and start today's themed crossword.
2. Tap a square or a clue to select an answer.
3. Type the answer with the on-screen keyboard.
4. Use a hint to reveal a letter or word when stuck, paid for with coins.
5. Finish the grid and come back tomorrow for the next theme.
