About Daily Rugby Games

Daily Rugby Games is an independent fan site built because, in its own words, rugby union never had a proper daily puzzle after Wordle. It is not connected to World Rugby or any union, club or player. The player data, covering positions, nations, clubs, caps, debuts and birth years, is compiled from public sources and reviewed after each international window.

Lineout was the first game and is the one the site leads with. You have six guesses to find a mystery Test player, and each guess fills a row of six tiles: position, nation, club, international caps, age and debut year. Green is a match; amber means close, such as the same unit of forwards or backs, the same group of nations, the same league, or within five caps or a year; arrows show which way the numbers go. The answer is picked from the date, so everyone gets the same player, and on Sundays it is an all-time great.

The other three games work differently. Perfect 10, in the style of the TV quiz Tenable, gives you a rugby list such as a nation's most-capped players or a famous starting XV, and you fill its slots until you have three wrong answers. Ruck On shows the fixture, score, date and venue of a well-known Test and gives you five minutes to name all thirty starters. Crossfield is a 3x3 grid of categories like England, Under 25 caps and Half-backs, with unlimited guesses and the clock as your score. A Caps game based on career paths is listed as coming soon, and a Today in Rugby History page covers what happened on each date.

It suits rugby fans who follow the international game and like arguing about caps and team sheets. Stats and streaks stay on your device with no account, the last seven days of puzzles can be replayed from the archive without touching your streak, and each game gives a spoiler-free emoji grid to share. The site carries ads.

How to play Daily Rugby Games

  1. Open dailyrugbygames.com and pick one of the day's games.
  2. In Lineout, type an international player's name and press Guess, then read the six tiles: green is a match, amber is close and arrows point to more or fewer caps, an older or younger player and a later or earlier debut.
  3. In Perfect 10, name the answers on the day's list in any order; a real player who is not on it is a strike, and three strikes end the game.
  4. In Ruck On, the clock starts with your first name: type surnames to light up the thirty starting shirts within five minutes.
  5. In Crossfield, pick a square and name a player who fits both its row and its column, using each player once, as fast as you can.
  6. Share your emoji grid and come back after midnight UK time for the next set.

Tips

  • In Lineout, open with a mid-career international from a major nation: thirty to sixty caps, still at a club, recent debut. The site says such openers leave the fewest candidates.
  • Read position and nation first in Lineout; club is the weakest clue, and a retired answer can never go green on club.
  • In Perfect 10, bank the names you are sure of before reaching, and remember caps lists reward long careers over famous ones.
  • In Ruck On, start with hooker, number 8, scrum-half, fly-half and full-back, then build the front rows as a unit.
  • In Crossfield, fill the narrowest squares first so you do not spend their only answer elsewhere.
