BRUNDLE on a desktop: Clue 1 reads A film very likely featuring Jeff Goldblum, above the Type a movie box, the Guess button and the line 90% of the time, the answer is The Fly

BRUNDLE is a joke daily film puzzle inspired by JEFFGOLDBLUMLE. You start with the clue that the film very likely features Jeff Goldblum, get a more specific clue after each wrong guess, and have three tries; the game says the answer is The Fly 90% of the time, and on most days it is.

About BRUNDLE

BRUNDLE is a small joke of a daily film game, made as a nod to JEFFGOLDBLUMLE, the word game whose answer is nearly always JEFFGOLDBLUM. Its name comes from Seth Brundle, the scientist Goldblum plays in David Cronenberg's The Fly, and the game is upfront about the gag: under the guess box it says that 90% of the time the answer is The Fly. The header now carries a badge saying it is part of LOLWORD.COM.

Each day there is one film to name, with three guesses. The first clue is always the same, "A film very likely featuring Jeff Goldblum", and every wrong guess reveals one more, first the director and genre, then a line about the plot. You type a title and pick it from a list of suggestions with their years.

The film comes from a hash of your local date. On most days it is The Fly, so a player who opens with it usually wins in one. On the other days it is another Goldblum film, from Jurassic Park and Independence Day to The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, and now and then a famous film he is not in at all, such as The Godfather, which is where the clues have to do the work.

After the round a statistics card shows your tries, success rate, current and best streak, the spread of your guesses and a countdown to the next film, with a Share button and a link to that day's JEFFGOLDBLUMLE. It suits film fans who like a running joke and want a daily puzzle that takes under a minute. The page carries ad banners and ad tiles around the game.

How to play BRUNDLE

  1. Read the first clue: a film very likely featuring Jeff Goldblum.
  2. Type a film title and pick it from the list of suggestions, then press Guess.
  3. If you are wrong, read the next clue, which names the director and genre, then the plot.
  4. Name the film within three guesses, then check your statistics and share your result.

Tips

  • The answer is The Fly on most days, so opening with it wins in one guess most of the time.
  • When The Fly misses, the second clue's director usually settles it: think through Goldblum's films by that director.
  • The answer is not always a Goldblum film: on rare days it is a famous film without him, so do not rule one out because he is not in it.

Questions

Is the answer really always The Fly?

Not always. The game says it is The Fly 90% of the time; on other days it is another Jeff Goldblum film, and occasionally a well-known film he is not in.

How many guesses do you get?

Three, with a new clue after each wrong one.

When does BRUNDLE change?

At midnight on your own device's clock.

Does BRUNDLE have ads?

Yes. The page shows a banner above the game and ad tiles below it.
