The Calendar Puzzle Daily board for 21 October in a desktop browser: Oct and 21 marked on the calendar grid, the shape bank of eight pieces beside it, timer and Get Hint

The Calendar Puzzle is a daily version of the puzzle-a-day calendar board, free in the browser and on iPhone. Each day you draw a set of tetris-style shapes into a board of months, days and weekdays so that only the current date is left uncovered. There are Mini, Daily and Weekday boards, an archive, three hints and a time leaderboard.

About The Calendar Puzzle

The calendar puzzle, also known as the puzzle-a-day, is a board printed with calendar squares and a set of flat pieces. The goal is to cover every square except the ones for today's date. The Calendar Puzzle puts that on screen: the date shown on the board changes every day, so each day is a new packing puzzle, and every player works on the same date.

There are three boards. Mini is a compact board with month, weekday and day, Daily leaves the month and day showing, and Weekday uses a full calendar where the month, the day and the day of the week all stay uncovered. You draw a shape by tapping and dragging across the board in any direction, double-tap to remove it, and fit every shape from the shape bank to finish. A timer runs while you play, three hints are available, and once solved you can share a link or submit your time to the leaderboard under a name. Earlier days are in the archive.

The iOS app, out since January 2026, adds challenge modes such as Find All, where you hunt every unique solution for the date, and a timed challenge, plus offline play. The Calendar Puzzle is made by Evan Davison. It is free, needs no account and shows no ads. It suits players who like spatial packing puzzles and a short, quiet daily routine.

How to play The Calendar Puzzle

  1. Open the puzzle and pick Mini, Daily or Weekday; the board marks today's date squares.

  3. Fit every shape so that only today's date squares are left uncovered.
  4. Share your result or submit your time to the leaderboard, and play earlier days from the archive.

Tips

  • Cover the corners and edges first; the squares around the date are usually the tightest fit.
  • Use the long thin shapes along the border of the board.
  • The Weekday board has more pieces, so start with the Mini board to learn the shapes.

Questions

Is the puzzle different every day?

Yes. Each board is tied to the date, so every day brings a new layout to solve, the same for everyone. The Daily board for a date comes back a year later.

What time does it reset?

At midnight on your own device's clock, since the page takes the date from your browser or phone.

Can I play in a browser?

Yes, at calendar-puzzle.com, on a phone or a computer. There is also an iOS app with challenge modes and offline play.

Can I play past days?

Yes, earlier puzzles are in the archive.

Is it free?

Yes. The website and the app are free, with no account needed and no ads.
