TerraPoint is a free daily geography game. Every day the same five world landmarks come up for everyone, and you spin and zoom a satellite globe to drop a single pin on each. Pins within about 50 km score the full 5,000 points, and your total of up to 25,000 goes on the day's leaderboard.
About TerraPoint
TerraPoint is a browser game about knowing where famous places are. Each round names a landmark, with a line of description and the country it sits in, and you find it on a 3D globe built from NASA Blue Marble satellite imagery, with sharper NASA GIBS tiles loading as you zoom in. At the deepest zoom it switches to Esri satellite imagery, close enough to pick out buildings.
A day's game is five rounds. You drag to spin the globe, zoom with the wheel, a pinch, a double tap, the slider or the plus and minus buttons, tap where you think the landmark is and lock in your one guess. The game then shows how far off you were and marks the real spot in green. Scoring follows the great-circle distance. About 50 km or closer earns the full 5,000 points, 500 km about 4,000, and 5,000 km only about 400.
The same five landmarks go to everyone, and a new set starts at midnight Pacific Time. When you finish, your score is posted to the daily leaderboard, where you can add any name you like; there are no accounts. A share card sums up your day, and the game keeps a day streak and your best streak in the browser.
After the daily run you can keep playing practice rounds, drawn from a pool of 500 landmarks that never includes the day's five. There is also a United States themed mode with 94 landmarks covering all 50 states. Only the first daily run counts on the leaderboard.
It suits players who like map games such as pin-the-place quizzes but want named landmarks rather than a street view to work out, and a short daily round that rewards zooming in carefully.
How to play TerraPoint
- Read the round's landmark, its short description and the country it is in.
- Drag the globe to spin it and zoom in with the wheel, a pinch, a double tap, the slider or the + and - buttons.
- Tap the globe where you think the landmark stands; tap again elsewhere to move the pin.
- Press Lock in guess to see how far away you were and where the landmark really is.
- Play all five rounds for a total out of 25,000, then add a name to the leaderboard or share your result.

Tips
- Find the right country and region first, then zoom in for the exact spot.
- Use coastlines, rivers, lakes and mountain ranges on the satellite image as anchors.
- Zoom in before you drop the pin: at full globe view a small slip can be hundreds of kilometres.
- Use practice rounds after the daily run to learn the landmark pool; they never repeat the day's five.
Questions
When does TerraPoint get new landmarks?
A new set of five landmarks starts at midnight Pacific Time, the same set for every player.
Is TerraPoint free, and do I need an account?
It is free and needs no sign-up. The game keeps a random ID and the name you choose in your browser so it can remember that you played today.
Can I play more than once a day?
Only your first daily run counts for the leaderboard. After it you can play as many practice rounds as you like, with landmarks other than the day's five, or try a themed mode.
How is a guess scored?
Each round is worth up to 5,000 points. Within about 50 km of the landmark scores in full, and the points drop smoothly with distance, to about 1,900 at 2,000 km.
