The Porter Robinsle board on Day #779, Song 1 of 5, with clue rows for half a second, one second and the start of the song, a Guess a song box and a Skip button

Porter Robinsle is a daily song quiz for fans of the electronic musician Porter Robinson. Every day there are five of his songs to name, and each gives you three clues: half a second of audio, one second, then the start of the song.

About Porter Robinsle

Porter Robinsle, made by Ottomated, is a Heardle-style game built around one artist, Porter Robinson. Each day is numbered, and every player gets the same five songs to guess.

Each song has three clues. Press play, or the space bar, to hear the first one, a clip of only half a second, then type your guess. A wrong guess or a skip opens the next clue, a full second, and the last clue plays the start of the song. Guesses are not case sensitive and most songs can be entered by acronym. The five dots at the top track your progress through the day's set.

Your progress is saved, so you can leave a half-finished day and come back to it. Settings add a Hard Mode, where each clue can be played only once, and a speedrun timer that starts with the first clue. An archive lets you play past days.

It suits Porter Robinson listeners who know his records well and want a short test of how well they know the songs by ear.

How to play Porter Robinsle

  1. Press the play button, or the space bar, to hear the first clue: half a second of the song.
  2. Type your guess for the song title; acronyms work for most songs.
  3. If you are unsure, press Skip to hear a longer clue: one second, then the start of the song.
  4. Move on to the next song once you have guessed or used all three clues.
  5. Name all five songs of the day, then try past days in the archive.

Tips

  • Listen for the sound palette first: synths, vocal chops and tempo narrow down which album a song is from.
  • Type acronyms to save time, especially with the speedrun timer on.
  • Turn on Hard Mode once you are confident, since each clue then plays only once.
  • Your progress is saved, so you can come back to a song later in the day.
