Phrasle is a daily phrase puzzle in the spirit of Hangman and Wheel of Fortune, made by a parent for children who found Wordle too hard. Guess letters to uncover the day's phrase; a wrong consonant costs one miss and a wrong vowel two, and how many misses you get depends on the phrase.
About Phrasle
Phrasle is a daily phrase-guessing game in the spirit of Hangman and Wheel of Fortune. Each day it hides a phrase, shown as rows of blank tiles with one row or gap per word, and you reveal it by guessing one letter at a time.
You pick letters from the on-screen keyboard. A correct letter turns green and fills in every place it appears in the phrase. Guesses cost you, though: a wrong consonant costs one miss and a wrong vowel costs two, and the number of misses you are allowed depends on how many different letters the phrase has (the 20 October 2026 puzzle allowed three). Run out of misses and you can keep guessing for fun or reveal the answer with one click.
There is one phrase a day, the same for everyone, numbered in sequence since early 2022 (Phrasle #1730 fell on 20 October 2026), and a countdown shows when the next one arrives. The Past Puzzles page lists the last twelve days, each with its answer and a short note on what the phrase means and where it comes from. The FAQ explains that answers can be any group of words that work together, so a day may bring an idiom, a place or an everyday thing.
The maker says Phrasle was built for two sons, then 9 and 11, who found Wordle hard to enjoy. It suits families, children and anyone who likes Hangman or Wheel of Fortune, with the twist that vowels are the expensive guesses. It runs in the browser with no account and is free, supported by ads since its second year.
How to play Phrasle
- Open phrasle.com to see the day's phrase as blank tiles, with each word on its own row or separated by a gap.
- Guess a letter with the on-screen keyboard; every place that letter appears in the phrase is revealed.
- Mind the cost: a wrong consonant costs one miss, and a wrong vowel costs two.
- Watch the misses-left counter while you fill in the phrase.
- Reveal every letter before the counter runs out, then share your result; a new phrase arrives at the countdown's end.
Tips
- Lead with common consonants such as R, S, T, N and L before risking a vowel, since wrong vowels cost double.
- Once a few letters show, read the word lengths and spacing to guess the whole phrase, then confirm with safe letters.
- Hold vowels back until the shape of the phrase tells you which ones are likely to fit.
- Short common words like THE, AND and OF often reveal themselves after one or two letters appear.
