Overbid
Rate itFive hidden numbers a day: bid as high as you dare, but never go over.
on playoverbid.com

Overbid is a daily number game of nerve. Each of the day's five questions hides a real figure you cannot look up, and you bid under it, raising as often as the bids you chose allow. Stop close to the answer for big points; go one over and the round pays nothing.
About Overbid
Overbid gives everyone the same five questions a day, numbered from its first daily on 6 September 2026 (Daily No. 47 on 22 October). Each hides a real figure with a named source, shown when the round ends, and a floor the answer is guaranteed to be at or above, such as over 10,000,000 for the number of people who visited Central Park in 2016.
Before you see each question, knowing only its category, you choose 1, 2 or 3 bids. One bid plays for up to 2,000 points and tells you nothing. Two bids play for up to 1,600 and three for up to 1,400, and each bid that holds with a raise left buys a hint: a figure from the question's workings, or whether the answer is more or less than double your bid.
Then you bid a number you think is below the answer. If it holds, you can Bank the points or Raise to a higher bid, and a ladder at the side draws your climb toward the hidden figure. A round pays its maximum times the bid divided by the answer to the power of 1.5, so on a 1,400 point round stopping at 70 per cent pays 820 and at 90 per cent pays 1,195, while a dead-on hit pays the full amount. One bid over the answer and the round pays zero.
The daily can be played once, and the next five arrive at midnight UTC. Past dailies can still be played from the archive, and Match lets you play a run and send a friend a challenge link to the same questions, with both climbs drawn side by side. A calculator sits under each question. It is free, with no account and no ads, and works the same on a phone and a desktop.
How to play Overbid
- For each question, choose 1, 2 or 3 bids before you see it: fewer bids play for more points, more bids buy hints.
- Read the question and its floor, then bid a number above the floor that you think is below the hidden answer.
- If your bid holds, read the hint if you have one, then Bank the points or Raise to a higher bid.
- Stop before you go over: one bid above the answer scores zero for the round.
- Finish all five questions, share your result, or challenge a friend in Match.

Tips
- Take three bids on categories you know little about: the hints after each held bid narrow the range.
- A surviving bid only says the answer is higher, so read the hint for how much higher.
- Use the floor: your first bid must beat it, and it hints at the scale of the answer.
- Stopping at 90 per cent pays far more than at 70 per cent, so push when you are confident.
- Use the calculator under the question to build an estimate from figures you know.
Questions
Can I play Overbid more than once a day?
No. The daily is five questions, the same for everyone, once a day. Past dailies can be played from the archive.
When do new questions arrive?
At midnight UTC.
How is a round scored?
Up to 2,000, 1,600 or 1,400 points by the number of bids you chose (1, 2 or 3), times (bid divided by answer) to the power 1.5. Going over pays zero.
What do extra bids give me?
A hint after each bid that holds with a raise left: a figure from the question's workings, or whether the answer is at most double your bid.
Where do the answers come from?
Every question has a named source, shown when the round ends.
