Today's NumbersGrid board at phone size: Kaprekar, persistence and coprime columns, sum-of-squares, palindromic square and odious rows, with 13 filled in as Common

NumbersGrid is an Immaculate Grid for numbers. Each day three row and three column properties, such as Kaprekar number, sum of two squares or palindromic square, frame a 3x3 grid, and you fill every square with a different positive number that fits both. Small, obvious numbers score low; numbers deeper in a sequence score more.

About NumbersGrid

NumbersGrid takes the row-and-column grid of sports and geography dailies and fills it with number theory. The rows and columns name properties a whole number can have, and each of the nine squares wants one number that has both of its properties. Tap a square, type a positive number and press Prove It: the game tests the number against both properties as you enter it, rather than checking it against a list of answers, so any number that really fits is accepted.

No number may be used twice, and the score depends on the number you choose, not only on whether it fits. Answers are ranked by how deep in the sequence they sit, from Common at 100 points through Not Bad and Lovely to Mathematician at 1000. On 21 October 2026 the columns were Kaprekar Number, High Multiplicative Persistence and Coprime to Thirty, and the rows Sum of Two Squares, Palindromic Square and Odious Number; 13 in the coprime and sum-of-two-squares square counted as Common.

The 87 properties come in five families: digit patterns, divisors, figurate forms such as triangular and square numbers, primes, and remainders. A Current Classifications page explains each one, and today's grid is drawn from them by a shuffle seeded with the date. A practice mode deals random grids as often as you like, a streak counts the days you finish, and a finished grid can be copied as a result to share.

It runs in the browser with no account and no ads, in a pixel style with small sounds and number facts that pop up in the background. It suits players who like numbers for their own sake and know that 6174 or 1729 has a name.

How to play NumbersGrid

  1. Choose Play today's Grid from the menu and close the how-to box.
  2. Read the property on each of the three rows and three columns; Classifications explains any you do not know.
  3. Tap a square, type a positive number that has both its row's and its column's property, and press Prove It.
  4. Use a different number in every square; a repeat is rejected.
  5. Reach for rarer numbers to score more, then copy your finished grid to share it.

Tips

  • Open Current Classifications first so terms like odious, Kaprekar or multiplicative persistence are clear before you start.
  • The first number that comes to mind is likely Common: look further along the sequence for Lovely or Mathematician points.
  • Fill the strictest pairings first, before the numbers they need are used elsewhere.
  • Use Practice random grids to learn the properties without touching your daily streak.

Questions

How is NumbersGrid scored?

By how deep in the sequence your number sits among the valid answers: Common 100, Not Bad 250, Lovely 500 and Mathematician 1000 points.

At midnight on your device. The grid is seeded from the local date, so everyone on the same date gets the same grid.

Can I use the same number twice?

No. Every square needs a different number.

Do I need an account?
