Jigsaw (Metro)
Rate itSwap 25 shuffled tiles back into place to rebuild Metro's picture of the day.
Every day: One photograph a day, the same for every player, cut into 25 shuffled square tiles (a reef fish among coral on the day we looked). New puzzle: Not stated on the page; Metro says new puzzles are uploaded daily, UK time..

Metro's daily jigsaw cuts one photograph into a 5 by 5 grid of square tiles and shuffles them. You swap tiles until the picture is whole again, with the finished image beside the board to work from and a timer running. It is free in the browser on Metro.co.uk, with no sign-up.
About Jigsaw (Metro)
Jigsaw is one of the free puzzles on the puzzles section of Metro.co.uk, the website of the UK newspaper Metro, alongside its Quick Crossword, Cryptic Crossword, Word Wheel and Hangman. Metro's page describes it as a jigsaw for your phone, tablet or computer with new puzzles uploaded daily.
Each puzzle is a single photograph split into 25 square tiles in a 5 by 5 grid. The tiles start shuffled, and the complete picture sits to the right of the board as a guide. You tap one tile and then another to swap them, or drag a tile to the spot where it belongs. There are no odd-shaped pieces and no empty space to slide into: every move is a straight swap, so a day's puzzle takes a few minutes.
A timer counts up while you play and can be paused or switched off in the rules box, and a Hint button helps when you are stuck. When the picture is complete the page shows your time and offers to share the puzzle with friends.
It suits anyone who wants a short, calm picture puzzle with their morning news rather than a long jigsaw session. The page carries ads, and Metro offers an optional newsletter and a paid Puzzles+ weekend edition, but the daily jigsaw itself needs neither.
How to play Jigsaw (Metro)
- Open the Jigsaw page on Metro.co.uk; the day's picture loads as a 5 by 5 grid of shuffled tiles.
- Look at the finished picture shown beside the board to see where each part belongs.
- Tap a tile and then another tile to swap their places, or drag a tile onto the square where it should go.
- Keep swapping until every tile is in place and the picture is whole; press Hint if you get stuck.
- Check your time on the finishing screen and share the puzzle if you like.
Tips
- Place the tiles with strong edges or colours first, such as the edges of the main subject, then fill in the plainer background.
- Work row by row from the top left so tiles you have already placed stay put.
- Turn the timer off in the Rules box if you would rather play without the clock.
