Hex 10 press art: a honeycomb of letter tiles with point values, the word SUAVER highlighted along a path of blue hexagons

Hex 10 is a Puzzle Society word game on a board of hexagonal letter tiles, each with a point value. You trace words through neighbouring tiles and try to make the ten highest-scoring words you can from the day's board. It comes with a GoComics subscription, with a new board each day.

About Hex 10

Hex 10 is one of the Puzzle Society games from Andrews McMeel Universal, played on the GoComics puzzle pages. The board is a honeycomb of hexagonal tiles, each holding a letter and a small number for its point value, much like a tile game's letter scores.

The Puzzle Society sums it up in two steps: find the words hidden within the tiles, which is the easy part, and then string them together into ten of the highest-scoring words you can, which is the hard part. Because each hexagon touches six others, a path can bend in many directions, and rare letters such as V, Y or B are worth far more than vowels.

Everyone gets the same board on a given day, so the question each morning is how many points your ten words can reach rather than simply finding words. It suits players of Boggle-style word hunts who like a score to chase.

Hex 10 is part of the GoComics subscription, which also opens the other Puzzle Society games such as Lexigo, Caved and Fliptogram.

How to play Hex 10

  1. Open Hex 10 on the GoComics puzzles page and sign in with a GoComics subscription.
  2. Look over the board of hexagonal letter tiles and their point values.
  3. Trace a word through tiles that touch each other, one letter after the next.
  4. Keep the words that score best: your result is built from ten high-scoring words.

Tips

  • Look for words that pass through the high-value letters before settling for easy short words.
  • Longer paths through several tiles usually beat two short words that use the same letters.
  • Read around each rare letter in all six directions: a hexagon has more neighbours than a square.
