Overlapt card: the clue SOMETHING FOR TWO above, DANCE below, and the linking answer TANGO in the row between them

Overlapt is a Puzzle Society word puzzle in which two seemingly unrelated clues are linked by a single word: 'Something for two' and 'Dance' both lead to TANGO. The answer is revealed bit by bit, and the aim is to name it before the game gives it away. A new one comes each day on GoComics, with a subscription.

About Overlapt

Overlapt is one of the newer Puzzle Society games from Andrews McMeel Universal, played on the GoComics puzzle pages. Its whole puzzle fits on one card: two short clues, one above and one below, and a row of blanks between them for the single word that answers both.

The trick is that the clues seem to have nothing to do with each other until you see the overlap. In the game's own example, 'Something for two' and 'Dance' meet at TANGO. The answer does not wait forever: the game works toward revealing the word itself, so the sooner you see the link, the better you do.

It is a quick daily puzzle, often a minute or two, built on wordplay and double meanings rather than general knowledge. It suits players who like the linking-word rounds of quiz shows and the shorter clued games on GoComics such as Lexigo.

Overlapt is included with a GoComics subscription, alongside the other Puzzle Society games.

How to play Overlapt

  1. Open Overlapt on the GoComics puzzles page and sign in with a GoComics subscription.
  2. Read the two clues, one above and one below the answer row.
  3. Think of a single word that fits both clues, often through a second meaning.
  4. Type the word before the game reveals it for you; the blanks show how many letters it has.

Tips

  • Use the number of blanks: the answer's length rules out most first ideas.
  • Try each clue as a different part of speech: a noun in one clue is often a verb in the other.
  • Phrases count: a clue like 'Something for two' points at the second half of a saying.
