Guess the Menu daily round on desktop: New India Bazaar Restaurant in Phoenix, a photo of the shopfront, a box to type menu items and the hidden menu list beside it, with score, multiplier and timer

Guess the Menu is a daily food game built on real restaurant menus. Each day's challenge has five rounds; in each you see a restaurant, such as an Indian buffet in Phoenix, and type words to uncover the dishes on its menu before the clock runs out, scoring more for every correct guess in a row.

About Guess the Menu

Guess the Menu takes real menus from restaurants around the world and turns them into a daily quiz for food lovers. The daily challenge is the same for everyone on a given date and runs over five rounds, each one a different restaurant with its cuisine and location shown.

In a round the menu is shown as a list of blanked-out items with a few letters' worth of hints, such as a word left showing. You type a word, and every item that contains it fills in at once: guessing "chicken" can open half an Indian menu in one go. Correct guesses in a row raise a multiplier, the clock gives about two minutes a restaurant, and a clue button helps when you are stuck. At the end you get a total score and a daily rank you can share, and the home page shows how players did on yesterday's restaurants, for example what share beat at least one round.

Past dailies are available in an archive by date. Outside the daily there is a Relax Mode without the pressure, and a Discover Mode for exploring the menus of restaurants in your own city.

It suits foodies, people who read menus for fun and anyone who likes list-style guessing games against the clock.

How to play Guess the Menu

  1. Press Play Today's Challenge; no account is needed.
  2. Read the restaurant's name, photo, cuisine and location for the round.
  3. Type a word you think appears on its menu and press Enter; every item containing it fills in.
  4. Keep guessing in a row to raise the multiplier, or press Skip, before the timer runs out.
  5. Finish all five rounds, see your score and daily rank, and share it or send a challenge link.

Tips

  • Start with words that recur across a cuisine's menu, such as chicken, paneer or rice: one word can fill several items at once.
  • Think about how restaurants name dishes: sides, drinks and desserts count too.
  • Use a clue when a round stalls rather than losing the rest of the time.
  • Try Relax Mode to learn how the matching works without the clock.
