Today's Medium Dozenal board, Push past: a 4x4 grid of number tiles and gaps with a timer above

Dozenal is a grid number puzzle about twelves. You link tiles into chains, and the gaps between them decide the sum: touching tiles add, one gap subtracts, two gaps multiply. Each day brings an Easy, a Medium and a Hard board with its own title, and every tile and gap must end up in a chain that makes 12.

About Dozenal

Dozenal is a daily number puzzle played on a small grid of number tiles and empty gaps. The goal is to make only 12s: you draw chains through the board, each chain ending on the number 12, until every number and every gap is used.

What sets it apart is how the operation is chosen. Two tiles side by side are added, tiles with one empty square between them are subtracted, and tiles two squares apart are multiplied. A chain may mix two different operations once, and after that it cannot go on, so some chains only work in one direction. Tapping a chain, or its first tile, undoes it.

The daily page has three puzzles, Easy, Medium and Hard, each with a title from the setter, such as Suit over shirt?, Push past or T-Rex skull on 18 October 2026. A timer runs while you solve, and a share button posts your result. The archive below lists every past day back to the first daily on 7 June 2026, and you can play any of them.

First-time players get a choice of a rules guide with short animations, a practice puzzle on the home page, and a video in which the maker, Chris, walks through the rules. It plays the same on a phone and a desktop, with no ads and no sign-up. It suits players who like KenKen, Shikaku or target-number puzzles and want something that is part arithmetic, part grid logic.

How to play Dozenal

  1. Open Daily and pick Easy, Medium or Hard.
  2. Start a chain on a tile and extend it to another tile in a straight line.
  3. Touching tiles are added, one gap between them subtracts, two gaps multiply.
  4. You may mix two operations once in a chain; after that the chain must end.
  5. End every chain on the number 12, using every tile and every gap until the board is full.
  6. Tap a chain or its first tile to undo it, then share your result or play a past day from the archive.

Tips

  • Big tiles such as 14 or 16 usually need a subtraction across one gap to come down to 12.
  • Count the gaps: a row with two empty squares between two tiles is a multiplication waiting to happen.
  • Remember that a mixed chain stops, so place the second operation last.
  • Play the practice puzzle on the home page before the Hard board.

Questions

Is it the same puzzle for everyone?

Yes. The daily page shows the same three titled puzzles to every player on a given date.

How many puzzles are there each day?

Three: Easy, Medium and Hard.

Do I only add numbers?

No. The spacing decides the operation: tiles next to each other add, one gap subtracts and two gaps multiply. A chain can mix two operations once.

Can I play past days?

Yes. The archive on the daily page lists every day back to 7 June 2026.
