ZebesGuessr Daily Mission 91, round 1 of 5: a Super Metroid room on the left and the Brinstar map, with a guess marked and Transmit Guess ready

ZebesGuessr is a fan-made map-guessing game for the 2D Metroid games. Each day's numbered Daily Mission picks one game and shows you five rooms in turn; you pick the area and mark where each sits on the map, scoring more the closer you get.

About ZebesGuessr

ZebesGuessr works like GeoGuessr for the planet Zebes and the other 2D Metroid worlds. A mission shows an unknown signal: a screenshot of one room from the game. Beside it is the game's full map, split into tabs for its areas, such as Ceres Space Colony, Crateria, Brinstar, Norfair, Wrecked Ship, Maridia and Tourian in Super Metroid. You switch to the area you think the room is in, zoom in, mark the spot and transmit your guess. The answer then shows the room's name, its area and how many map cells you were off.

Each mission has five rounds worth up to 5,000 points each. The Daily Mission is numbered and dated and picks the game for everyone; the first ran on 22 July 2026, and on 20 October 2026 it was mission 91, in Super Metroid. Its difficulty follows the week: Familiar Ground on Monday and Tuesday, Off the Beaten Path from Wednesday to Friday, and Deep Archive at the weekend. Outside the daily you can start a random mission, choosing Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion or Metroid: Zero Mission and a difficulty, or play a mission from a shared seed.

High scores earn ranks, from Unreliable Navigator up to Galactic Cartographer, and unlock extra tools such as a Scan Visor; a run that uses them counts as practice. The site keeps a daily streak and a log of your missions in the browser, and can make a scorecard image to share. It needs no account and shows no ads.

The game is made by Steve Fallon, who also runs Fantasy Critic, and its code is public on GitHub. It is drawn in a pixel style that matches the games, and suits Metroid players who have explored these maps many times and want to test how well they remember every corridor and shaft.

Tips

  • Look at the colours and tile style first: each area has its own palette.
  • Doors, save rooms and elevator shafts make good landmarks on the map.
  • Weekend missions are the hardest; practise a game you know less well in Random Mission before then.
