Wordfive Daily Puzzle for 18 October 2026 on a desktop: a 5x5 letter grid with five blank squares and the loose tiles S, P, I, C and Y below it

Wordfive gives you a grid holding five five-letter words, one letter missing from each. Below the grid are the five removed letters, which also spell a sixth word. You work out where each letter belongs so every word reads correctly across, down or diagonally. There is a shared Daily Puzzle plus endless new ones.

About Wordfive

Wordfive is a free word puzzle for the browser and for phones by Paul Bills, described by its maker as part word search, part sudoku. A grid holds five five-letter words placed horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and one letter has been taken out of each word.

The five removed letters are shown below the grid, and they are not random: together they spell a sixth five-letter word. Your job is to fit each loose letter back into the right blank space so all five grid words are complete again.

Alongside endless new puzzles you can play a Daily Puzzle, which is the same for everyone that day. The page offers a hint, a reset and a show-answer option, a timer for the daily and a share button once it is solved. The free iOS and Android apps add stats and colour schemes; they show ads, and a one-time purchase in the apps removes them.

It suits players who like word searches and deduction puzzles and want a short daily grid that rewards spotting words in several directions at once.

How to play Wordfive

  1. Look at the grid, which hides five five-letter words across, down or diagonally.
  2. Note the empty space in each word where a letter was removed.
  3. Take the five loose letters shown below the grid.
  4. Place each letter into the blank that completes its word.
  5. Finish so all five grid words read correctly and the loose letters spell the sixth word.

Tips

  • Scan diagonals as well as rows and columns, since words can run any of those ways.
  • Letters you place must still leave every other word solvable, so check crossings.
  • Remember the five loose letters form a word, which can hint at what is missing.

Questions

Is there a daily puzzle?

Yes. A Daily Puzzle button loads the day's grid, which is the same for everyone, alongside unlimited new puzzles.

What do the loose letters have in common?

The five removed letters spell a sixth five-letter word, which can help you place them.

What help is there?

The page offers a hint, a reset and a show-answer option.

What time does the Daily Puzzle change?

At midnight on your own device. The day's grid is picked from your local date, so everyone on the same date gets the same board.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. The web page works in a phone browser, and there are free iOS and Android apps with stats and colour schemes. The apps show ads unless you make a one-time purchase.
