Worchle's Easy 5x5 grid on a phone: the word TUCK circled down a column, its C and K green as letters in the keyword's place, 2 guesses and 17 words left

Worchle is a daily word search with a Wordle twist. Each grid hides many words, but only one is the keyword. Every word you circle costs a guess and colours its tiles by how close its letters are to the keyword, so you narrow it down before the guesses run out. There are three grids a day, from 5x5 to 15x15.

About Worchle

Worchle (word search plus Wordle) sets three grids a day, the same for every player: Easy at 5 by 5, Medium at 10 by 10 and Hard at 15 by 15. Each one opens once you finish the one before. The puzzles are numbered, and the site has been running for well over 900 days.

Each grid holds a set of ordinary words placed across, down or diagonally, forwards or backwards. One of them is the keyword. You circle a word by tapping its first and last letters, and each circle uses one of a small number of guesses (three on the Easy grid). The circled word's tiles then turn colours in the Wordle manner: green for a letter in the keyword's place, grey for one the keyword lacks. Circling TUCK on a day whose keyword ends in CK lights its last two letters green, which tells you which of the grid's other words to try next.

Two rules matter. A word fully inside a longer word does not count on its own, so circle the longer one. And words must be circled in their own direction: if a circle does not register, the letters may spell a different word the other way. When the round ends, the words you did not find are shown.

The page is plain and quick: a grid, a guess counter and a list of words still hidden, with stats, a streak and a share button. It has no ads and needs no account. The same site also runs Haystack, a daily one-word search, and themed word searches and a maths puzzle, Mathic.

It suits word search players who want each find to mean something, and Wordle players who like the colour clues but want to hunt for their guesses in a grid.

How to play Worchle

  1. Open the day's Easy grid on worchle.com.
  2. Find any word in the grid and circle it by tapping its first letter, then its last letter.
  3. Read the tile colours: green letters sit in the keyword at that place, grey letters are not in it.
  4. Pick your next word from the grid to test the letters the colours point to, keeping an eye on the guesses left.
  5. Circle the keyword before your guesses run out, then go on to the Medium and Hard grids.

Tips

  • Spend the first guess on a long word with common letters: it tests more of the keyword at once.
  • Words can run backwards and diagonally; if a circle does not register, read it the other way.
  • A word inside a longer word will not count on its own; circle the longer one.
  • Count how many words are left: on the Easy grid there are only a handful of keyword-length candidates.
