Woodle is a free daily word game that crosses Wordle with Mastermind. Each guess returns two numbers, how many letters are in the right place and how many are in the word but misplaced, without saying which. There is a numbered five-letter and four-letter daily word, plus practice modes.
About Woodle
Woodle is a daily word-guessing game built on Mastermind-style feedback. As in Wordle you are hunting for one hidden word, but the game never colours your letters for you. After each guess it shows two counts beside the word: how many letters are correct and in the right spot, and how many are in the word but in the wrong spot.
Each day has a numbered puzzle, the same for every player, in two sizes: Daily Woodle with a five-letter word and Daily Mini with an easier four-letter one. The numbering started in February 2022, and two unlimited modes in both sizes let you play as many extra words as you like.
There is no limit on guesses; the aim is to crack the word in as few as possible. To keep track of your reasoning you can tap letters in your past guesses to colour them yourself, marking which ones you believe are right, misplaced or absent, and the keyboard greys out letters you have already tried. A stats screen keeps your average guesses and your current and longest streak, and you can share your result.
Woodle suits Wordle players who want more deduction and less luck, and fans of Mastermind or bulls and cows. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer with no account, and the page loads Google's ad script.
How to play Woodle
- Open play.woodle.today; the arrow on the left switches between Daily Woodle, Daily Mini and the unlimited modes.
- Type a real word and press Enter.
- Read the two counts beside your guess: the top one is letters in the right place, the bottom one letters in the word but misplaced.
- Tap letters in your past guesses to colour them as your own notes about what each count means.
- Keep guessing until you find the word, in as few tries as you can, then share your result.

- Guesses that share most letters with an earlier one isolate which letters changed the counts.
- A guess that scores zero on both counts rules out all of its letters at once.

Wordle colours each letter. Woodle only tells you how many letters are in the right place and how many are misplaced, so you have to work out which ones.
