5 Across board for Oct 17, 2026 after the guess CRANE: C and R green, N orange, A and E grey, with the on-screen keyboard below

5 Across is Fox News's Wordle-style daily word game. You have six tries to find a hidden five-letter word, and after each guess the tiles show which letters are in the right place, which are in the word but elsewhere, and which are not in it at all.

About 5 Across (Fox News)

5 Across is the Wordle-style game on Fox News's free games page. The page says it was inspired by Wordle, and it works the same way: one hidden five-letter word a day, the same for everyone, and six guesses to find it. The word list comes from King Features Syndicate, which supplies the page's crosswords and word search too.

You type a real five-letter word and submit it. Each letter then changes colour: one colour for a letter in the right spot, another for a letter that is in the word but in a different spot, and a plain tile for a letter that is not in the word. You use those clues to narrow down your next guess.

It is free with ads and needs no account. It suits Wordle players who want a second daily word on a page they already visit.

  3. Read the colours: right letter in the right spot, right letter in the wrong spot, or not in the word.
  4. Use the clues to choose your next guess.
  5. Find the word within six tries.
