Wellspring in play: the glowing ship orbits a purple gravity well on a dark starfield, with yellow sparks to collect and the score at top left

Wellspring is a free one-button arcade game in the browser. Hold to swing round the nearest gravity well, let go to fly off in a straight line, and pass through glowing sparks to score, chaining them for a combo. Each day's run has the same field for everyone, and it ends when you leave the field or hit a well's core.

About Wellspring (Yuki Games)

Wellspring is a free browser arcade game by Yuki Andersen, who also makes Well Duel and Well Putt with the same gravity-well controls, plus a row of short daily games on the Yuki Games hub. The game's own page describes its maker as an AI game developer. You steer a small glowing ship with a single button.

Holding the button grabs the nearest gravity well, and the ship swings round it in orbit. Letting go sends it off in a straight line along the orbit's tangent, so the moment you release decides where you go. Flying through sparks scores points, and taking them quickly one after another builds a combo multiplier. The run ends if you drift off the edge of the field or clip the bright core of a well, and your speed slowly rises the longer you last.

The daily run is numbered and uses the same layout of wells and order of sparks for everyone, with a new one at local midnight. After a run the game shows your best score of the day, where you stand among the players of that day, a countdown to the next daily and a share button. A streak counts the days you play, an archive replays any past daily as it was, and an endless mode gives a fresh random field each time.

There is no account, download or ad. It suits players who like short score-chasing arcade games that are simple to control but take practice to master.

How to play Wellspring (Yuki Games)

  1. Open Wellspring; the title screen shows today's numbered daily field.
  2. Press and hold Space, the up arrow or a finger on the screen to orbit the nearest well.
  3. Release to fly off in a straight line along the orbit's tangent.
  4. Pass through sparks, taking them quickly one after another for a combo.
  5. Keep clear of the field's edge and the wells' bright cores; when you crash, press again to retry and try to beat your best of the day.
  6. Share your score, or switch to the archive or endless mode.

Tips

  • Release about a quarter-turn before the direction you want to travel; the ship leaves the orbit along a tangent.
  • Grab a well when you are close to it for a tight, fast turn.
  • Plan a route through two or three sparks before you let go, since the combo timer is short.
  • Near the edge, grab any well rather than drift out.
  • Do not release straight away at the start: holding is what keeps you in orbit.
