Twinwords is a free browser word game from At Yours with two hidden five-letter words and nine guesses shared between them. Each guess is scored on both boards at once, so a good word tells you about two answers. A new pair is set for everyone at midnight UTC, and a practice mode gives more pairs when the daily one is done.
About Twinwords
Twinwords is a daily word game made by At Yours, a site of games for playing at home and with friends. It takes the colour-tile guessing of Wordle and puts two answers side by side: a left word and a right word, both five letters long, both hidden.
You have nine guesses in all, and each one you type is checked against both answers. A green tile with a dot marks a right letter in the right place, an amber tile with a corner mark a letter that is in the word somewhere else, and gray a letter with no copies left in that answer. The same guess can be green on one board and gray on the other, so the work is in choosing words that test letters for both answers at once. Once one word is solved its board stays filled in and the remaining guesses go to the other.
The daily pair changes at midnight UTC and is the same everywhere. Your game in progress is kept in the browser, finished days count once in local statistics, and the share button gives a spoiler-free grid of tiles. Practice mode deals new pairs whenever you like without touching the daily puzzle.
Guesses are checked against an 8,636-word five-letter list taken from the public-domain ENABLE dictionary, and the answers come from the game's own chosen pool. Repeated or unknown words do not use up a try. There is no account, timer or purchase. It suits Wordle players who want one more step of difficulty than one board but less than the four of Quordle.
How to play Twinwords
- Open Twinwords and look at the two empty boards, the left word and the right word.
- Type a five-letter English word and press Enter; it is entered on both boards at once.
- Read the colours on each board separately: green with a dot is the right letter in the right place, amber with a corner mark is in the word elsewhere, gray means no more copies of that letter.
- Choose your next guess to test letters for both answers, and keep going within nine guesses.
- When one word is solved, its board is finished; use the guesses left on the other word.
- Share your result as a tile grid, or start a practice pair while you wait for the next day.
Tips
- Open with a word of common, different letters: it sorts the alphabet for both answers at the same time.
- Watch for a letter that is green on one board and gray on the other; it tells you the two answers differ there and narrows both.
- Solve the board with more clues first, then spend the remaining guesses on the harder one.
- An invalid or repeated word costs nothing, so you can try a spelling without losing a turn.
