Stat Countdown

Stat Countdown is a browser game for NBA fans that turns season stat totals into a countdown. Each daily round names one regular-season stat and one season and gives a starting number. On 27 October 2026 it was assists in 2023-24, starting at 398. Your job is to bring that number down to anywhere between 0 and 10.

You search for a player by name and pick him. Only then is his total for that stat and season shown and taken off your score. The search lists each player's teams but never his total. A pick that would go below zero is a bust: your score stays where it was, and the guess and the player are used up. You have six guesses and can win in fewer. Exactly zero is not needed.

The game rewards a sense of scale more than exact recall. On the day we played, Kevin Durant's 378 assists took the score from 398 to 20, and Boban Marjanovic's 7 left 13, one small pick away from a win. Early picks should take big chunks off with a high-volume starter. The last pick or two call for a bench player whose total fits what is left. A traded player counts with all his teams, and only players with at least 10 recorded games that season can be chosen. The statistics come from the BALLDONTLIE data service.

The daily round is the same for everyone and changes at midnight UTC. You can play as a guest. Signing in with an email link, Google or Facebook keeps your streak and history across devices and lets you turn on a daily reminder email. A stats page tracks your current and best streak, results can be shared, and a Practice tab deals fresh rounds whenever you want without touching your daily record. The privacy page says the site shows no ads. It suits NBA fans who follow box scores and want a puzzle that takes a few minutes.
