SoundByte is a daily song-guessing game in the style of Heardle, played free in the browser on itch.io. Everyone gets the same mystery song each day and starts with one second of it; each wrong guess or skip adds another second, up to six tries. Naming the right artist lights your guess yellow, and a first-try answer is worth 1000 points.
About SoundByte
SoundByte is a small browser music quiz on itch.io, listed there as in development. Each day there is one mystery song, numbered from the game's first day on 1 January 2026, and every player hears the same one. The clip starts at a single second. If you cannot name it, or guess wrong, the next try plays one second more, and you have six tries to get there.
You type the song's title into a plain text box; there is no list of suggestions, but spelling and punctuation are forgiven. If you type the right artist instead, the guess turns yellow to tell you that you are close, but only the title wins the day. The clips are 30-second previews from the iTunes store, played from their start.
Scoring rewards an early answer: the first try is worth 1000 points and later tries less. The game keeps a streak of days you solved it, and when you finish you can copy a spoiler-free result with your tries and points. The link in that shared result points to an address that does not open yet, so send friends the itch.io page instead.
The song list is short: 30 well-known pop and rock songs, from Queen and Journey to The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, in a fixed order that starts again every 30 days. It suits a casual player who wants a one-minute daily music quiz with no account and no ads; a regular player will start hearing repeats after a month.

- Share your result and come back after midnight UTC to keep your streak.

Tips
- Listen for the instrument or voice that opens the song: one second is often enough to tell a guitar riff from a synth.
- Skipping costs a try just like a wrong guess, so guess when you have a real idea.
- If you only know the singer, type the artist: a yellow guess confirms it and you can spend the next tries on titles.
- The list repeats every 30 days, so a song you missed will be back a month later.
