Slydle mixes the sliding-tile puzzle with a Boggle-style word hunt. The day's letters sit on a small grid with one empty square. You slide tiles into the gap to bring letters together, then swipe through touching tiles to spell words of four letters or more, aiming to find every hidden word in as few slides as you can. Slydle9 and SlydleXL add a nine-letter word to find and a bigger board.
About Slydle
Slydle takes the old sliding-tile puzzle, where tiles move one at a time into the empty square, and puts letters on the tiles. Moving tiles is only half of it. Words are found by swiping a path through tiles that touch up, down or sideways, as in Boggle, and only words of four letters or more count. A three-step tutorial shows the idea on a small board with the word WORD.
The main mode is a 3x3 grid holding eight letters and one gap. On Wed, Oct 28, 2026 (puzzle #120) the letters were those of ENTERING and the target was 32 words. Everyone gets the same letters and the same word list, though the tiles start in a shuffled order. A counter at the top shows the words found, the slides used and a progress bar. Once you have half the words, the first letter of each one left is shown.
Since diagonal steps are not allowed, a word often needs its letters moved next to each other first. Each slide is counted, so the puzzle is partly about finding words and partly about planning short routes through the board.
Two more modes come with each day's puzzle. Slydle9 asks you to slide the tiles until the day's nine-letter word can be traced, and SlydleXL gives a bigger grid with more tiles and more words. A menu shows the puzzle number and date, your stats and a countdown to the next puzzle, which arrives at midnight UK time.
Slydle runs in the browser on a phone or a desktop, needs no account and shows no ads. Results can be shared as a short text with your slide count. It suits players who like Squaredle-style word hunts and want a board that moves.
How to play Slydle
- Open slydle.app and follow or skip the short tutorial.
- Pick a mode from the menu: Slydle, Slydle9 or SlydleXL.
- Tap a tile next to the empty square to slide it into the gap.
- Swipe across touching tiles, up, down or sideways, to spell a word of four letters or more. Found words are added to the counter.
- Find all of the day's words (or, in Slydle9, the nine-letter word) in as few slides as you can, then share your result.

Tips
- The 3x3 letters usually make one long word. Spot it early and the shorter words come from its parts.
- Trace every word the current layout allows before you slide again.
- Keep the empty square near the letters you are working on to save slides.
- Tap the scoreboard to see the words you have already found.
