Today's Silly Little Codes puzzle in a desktop browser: two belts after H and SK, each followed by minus BR, above the answer box and on-screen keyboard

Silly Little Codes shows one rebus a day: a small green card of pictures, letters, numbers and arrows that together spell out a word or phrase. You type guesses with no limit on tries, take a hint, or reveal the answer if you are stuck. A new code comes out each day at midnight.

About Silly Little Codes

Silly Little Codes is a daily rebus game from Silly Little Games, a small studio that also makes Silly Little Letters, Words, Mimes and Mix-Ups. Each puzzle is a green card of icons, words and symbols to read as sounds and positions: one day a plane minus an L, the word your repeated four times, a turn arrow, a 2 and a pear beside a T; another day two belts tucked between letters, each with a BR taken away.

The game's line is to interpret a puzzle to crack the code. You type guesses on the on-screen keyboard until you get it, with no limit on tries. A timer runs while you think, a light bulb gives a hint, and a magnifying glass reveals the answer after asking whether you are sure. When you solve it you can copy a result to share, and the game keeps your solve record and streak.

The makers say every puzzle is made, tested and edited by hand rather than generated. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer and needs no account. It suits players who like wordplay and lateral thinking more than letter-guessing games.

How to play Silly Little Codes

  1. Open playsillylittlegames.com/codes and press Play to load the day's code.
  2. Study the card: each icon, word, number or arrow stands for a sound or a word.
  3. Read the parts in order, noting where they sit, how many there are and any letters taken away.
  4. Type your guess for the phrase and press Enter; guesses are unlimited.
  5. Press the light bulb for a hint, or the magnifying glass to reveal the answer if you are stuck.

Tips

  • Say each part out loud: rebuses work on sounds, not spelling.
  • Count repeated words: four of something is often for, or four.
  • Position matters: a word above, inside or after another changes the reading.
  • A minus sign with a letter means take that letter away from the picture's word.
