Today's Showdle board with three guesses, Friends, The Simpsons and Breaking Bad, each compared on year, seasons, genre, format and network, with Format marked green

Showdle is a daily TV show guessing game. You name any show, and the game compares it with the answer on premiere year, number of seasons, genre, format and network, until you find it within 16 guesses. A calendar archive holds past days, and side games include a daily character mode and a five-round spot-the-lie quiz.

About Showdle

Showdle works like the attribute-guessing games built on Wordle, but every answer is a television series. You type the name of any show in its database of several hundred, from sitcoms and prestige dramas to reality and animated series, and the game lays your guess out in a row of five columns next to the hidden show.

Each column is coloured. Premiere year turns green when it is right and yellow when it is in the right decade. Seasons is green when exact and yellow within two aired seasons. Genre is green for the same sub-genre, such as Workplace comedy or Legal drama, and yellow for the same main genre. Format is live-action, animated, documentary or reality. Network turns yellow when your show aired on a channel or streamer owned by the same parent company, and the game lists those ownership groups. You have 16 guesses.

A new show appears at midnight New York time, and a countdown shows how long is left. A calendar lets you play earlier days; the archive reaches back to late September 2025. Around the main puzzle sit a dozen side games: Son of the Manias asks you to name ten characters from their descriptions, SHOW Me The Lie gives five sentences a day that may contain false details, and there are daily rounds of hangman, a ten-question quiz, a reverse mode with all the green clues given upfront, and descriptions to repair. Two timed modes and a custom puzzle maker can be replayed as often as you like.

The game is made by Wilson Cissel and is free, with no account. It suits people who watch a wide range of television, since the answer can just as easily be a cooking competition as a crime drama.

How to play Showdle

  1. Type the name of any TV show and pick it from the suggestions.
  2. Read the five columns: year, seasons, genre, format and network, each coloured green, yellow or grey.
  3. Use the yellows to narrow it: right decade, within two seasons, right main genre, or a network with the same owner.
  4. Keep guessing until you find the show or use your 16 guesses.
  5. Share your result, then try the side games or play a past day from the calendar.

Tips

  • Open with a long-running show from a big network: it tells you a lot about format, era and owner in one guess.
  • Check the genre definitions list before guessing; a show's main genre on Showdle may not be the one you expect.
  • The network ownership list explains the yellow network colour, so a yellow on a cable channel can point you to its sister channels and streamer.
  • The seasons count is aired seasons only, so a show that was just renewed counts what has already been shown.

Questions

When does Showdle reset?

At midnight New York (Eastern) time. A countdown under the board shows the time left.

How many guesses do I get?

Sixteen.

Can I play past Showdle puzzles?

Yes. Past Puzzles opens a calendar of earlier days, going back to September 2025.

What do the yellow colours mean?

Year: right decade. Seasons: within two. Genre: right main genre but not sub-genre. Network: a different channel or streamer with the same parent company.

Is there more than one game a day?

Yes. Most of the side games, such as Son of the Manias, SHOW Me The Lie and the ten-question show quiz, change daily too. Flash Format, Decade Dash and Custom Showdle can be replayed.
